We went here for lunch. It was a good lunch. They had two black pork secreta entrees on the dinner menu so we went back for dinner, just for the secreto. No disappointment here. If you have never had secreto, which is a rare thing to find in the USA, you are in for the experience of an eating lifetime. It is a “bacon steak,” but made with black pok. It transcends any pork experience you’ve likely had. One plate was served with homemade potato chips and a tomato Midas. The other came with a bread dish kind of like a twice-baked potato but made with a bread boule. Don’t worry about the side dishes. They are great, but the pork is the star of the show, whether served with citrus wedges or a fruity plumish reduction (basaltic, maybe? . Good wine list as well, with lots of selection, and good local wines available that perfectly complemented the black pork secreta. Best ever.

We only stayed in Vila Vicosa for a one night stopover. Stumbled on this place and gave it a try as we were tired and hungry! Wow we were glad we did! Firstly the service was excellent, kind and attentive waiters (with a good sense of humour). The food was amazing, we had the goat leg…. delicious, as was everything else. The traditional desert was amazing!! All for €58 with excellent house wine. Definitely recommend. We will be back.

We stopped here for lunch during our bike ride and had a pleasant seat outside. We were surprised to find lots of different burgers on the menu, with unusual ingredients and interesting buns. It was a lot different than we expected but a tasty and delicious lunch. Our waiter was friendly and it was clean and comfortable.

After months closed because of lockdown you would imagine they are making an effort to gain customers and make some money. But no! Waiters are rude and lazy and make an effort to scare customers away. We went to lunch on April 2, several tables were empty, and the others were only drinking. The waiters made no effort to sit us, in fact they claimed everything was booked. Finally we found a table but the waiters said it would take long to eat because there were many tables waiting to eat (3 we counted). Did not offer to bring a drink or bread or olives or anything. Clearly were not happy to see us there and probably cheered when we decided to leave. Simply amazing!

During a long weekend in Vila Viçosa this became our Go to place. Dinner the first night excellent choice of dishes , lamb very good and some good wines. Great service although terrace very busy. So back next night the House Cod was delicious as were the prawns .Wonderful local dessert, their speciality in a large mug . Stopped by as well for morning coffees. Thoroughly recommend the place. Many thanks Francisco, you were great.

After visiting several quarries we came to Vila Vicosa for lunch and a quick look at the local architecture. The host led us to a souterrain area which was less crowded than the ground floor (that looked like a typical local bar and pub take that as a compliment because it seemed authentic), and we chose a table close to the window, being alone almost till the end of our lunch. We followed the host's recommendation (seafood, and traditional Portuguese desserts), and every single bite was delicious. The cover, plates, glasses, and cutlery are all above what you would expect and adds positively to the notion of a place that keeps being traditional and exquisite in a very fine balance. Recommended, and a pleasant memory.
