Restaurante L-Colesterol em CARRAPATEIRA

Myself and my girlfriend were visiting family for a couple of days (who were renting a much more expensive villa nearby for longer term). We were attracted to L. Colesterol by the low price to be perfectly honest, and the facilities were exactly as described and more than adequate for our needs. In addition to this however is an incredible location (literally a 5-10 minute walk to the best beach I have ever experienced in my life), very nice laid back breakfast buffet and free access reasonable quality wifi. The village/town of Carrapatiera is modest and this is located towards the north end (much nearer the beach than the town), but everything is easily accessible with a bit of a walk, including a very nice restaurant with excellent fish at the end of the road. The bed was comfortable, shared bathroom was absolutely fine and only with one other room. We had a balcony which linked to three other rooms, which was perfect for cooling down and drying swimming clothes. Only downside was no mirror in the room which particularly annoyed my girlfriend.

Very nice place within a relaxing atmosphere. Perfect to calm down. The food was tasteful and ingredients are from the garden right behind the restaurant. It feels perfect to stay here!

I had the funky burger it was really great and tasty! The people are very friendly and nice we made a lot of jokes it was really great! As a dessert we had the chocolate cake, the best I ever had!

This place was a torture. We had to wait almost an hour for tasteless, totally overpriced lovelessly cooked meals.. the Manu-Chao in the background, that pretentious wanna be music that should be relegated to the dustbin of music, did the rest to me.. I was very happy indeed to be able to leave the place and go to the wonderful beach where I felt better ... A very pretentious place.

If you go to see Cabo de Sao Vicente then you must turn north to Carrapateira village and the L-Cholesterol restaurant. You will feel transported back to the 60s and 70s in a relaxed setting with lounging benches and discrete cubicles all outside under homemade sunshades. The menu offered excellent local organic food at very reasonable prices. We shared delicious local Fish and Beef dishes with cocktails and wine. A real find just off the beaten track down to the local surfing beaches (which had life guards).

We went for dinner after a day of biking. We had warmed goat cheese and some sort of jam for a starter which was good. For mains, we had grilled steak and fish. Grilled steak came with boiled potatoes and salad. Food was good. Service was a bit off beat but friendly. There is indoor and out door seating.

We really enjoyed having drinks and dinner here. Friendly staff that spoke some English! Relaxed atmosphere with live music on that particular evening. The food was tasty and different items on the menu from what we had seen in Portugal, but still traditional. Free wifi.

Had it not been for the sweet manager and the waitress, I would have blown up for sure. They had Asian prix-fixe dinner the night we were there for 15 euros per person ( not including drinks) so we thought why not! We would have had a better dining experience elsewhere for sure. Ambience is chill and relaxing but the service!!!!!!!! One of the waiters was clumsy and forgetful and worse yet arrogant (too cool for this job type), and it took us 2 hours and 15 minutes for the entire dinner: a small plate of soba noodles, a Thai curry flavored soup (delicious by the way), a small platter of vegetable tempuras. We waited patiently for the next course only to find out that was it!!! The waiter forgot our dessert completely and another waitress came over to ask if we have gotten it. The staff was running, I mean literally running back and forth and there were less than 30 diners all together.Great concept but absolutely needs to improve on the service and execution.
