Restaurante O Alambique em Lagoa

Excellent experience. We went for dinner on a very busy evening in São Miguel so we opted for a place in Lagoa. Yummy local corn bread, blood sausage (morcela) and chouriço to start. Alcatra (stewed marinated beef) was delicious, flavorful and tender. Cataplana with swordfish and boca negra fish was also richly flavored and a huge portion for 2 people. Service was attentive and quick. We also received our food quickly.The owner and chef Margarida came to chat with us and explained how she cooks everything fresh to order. She never uses frozen products, including beef. She is proud of her cooking and you will not be disappointed. Try it out! High recommended.

Stumbled across by mistake and ended up eating there almost every evening. Wonderful meat, fish and seafood. Friendly and attentive service. Highly recommend!

We have a daughter with a severe fish allergy. They made her a separate dinner with no problem at all. The red house wine here was fantastic. Food is plentiful.

We have been in Lagoa for about 6 days now and visited O Alambique twice in the six days.. why you ask? because the food is amazing .. fresh fish daily and the service is fantastic. Plus they won an award for beef stew in 2016 and have quitr a nice menu to choose from. We plan to visit a few more times before we head back to Ontario Canada. Here is the meal we had today and it was delicious!!

Such a great home cooked meal and friendly atmosphere. So much food and all traditional in this family run restaurant. Waiter was very friendly and is proud of the island and loves the restaurant and speaking to customers.

Just had lunch here today, 1/23/17. Pulled in on a whim after a wonderful hike. Freshly made cheese with pepper sauce, fresh bread, grilled squid, potatoes, salad, Azorian white wine, and capuchino, much more than I could eat, for 15 euros. This is authentic home cooking, served by the owner and cooked by his mother. All fresh, all good.

We stumbled upon this place while driving around on a windy, blustry late December day. The waiter was very attentive and we switched to English when we realised she spoke it well.The bread was local and of a home-made style with brown flour. The cheeses on offer were the Island variety and very tasty. Nice local beer too.She recommended a beef and potato dish which turned out to be very filling and delicious. Nice espresso coffee finished off as we had absolutely no room for desert. Doggy bags accompanied us out. Bill was less than 20 Euros each. We left filled, happy and content.
