Yeatman em Vila Nova de Gaia

The Orangerie restaurant was used for breakfast where an excellent buffet breakfast was available and also in the evening. The evening dining menu was not extensive but the food was good especially the fish dishes however as the restaurant didn't seem to be well used the atmosphere was lacking. When we chose wine the waitress provided a card detailing the wine and vintage/ vineyard which we thought was a great idea.

When you pay top dollar you expect top quality settings, food and service. The Orangerie gave you the best setting but then unfortunately a mix of good service with bad. I had to remind and correct the staff multiple times. Drinks were served after the meals were finished. My excellent John Dory fish soup/stew was served from a large pot and the waiter gave me a tiny portion. I was very surprised when the waiter came back an hour later and served me more food from the same pot when we all had finished our meal since long. The food was generally quite good but not exceptional. A few dishes was sub standard. My wife is allergic to carrots, which we of course pointed out, but still they served her a salad with carrots. We did not bother to order deserts.

We booked lunch here last week as a consolation prize, having failed to get a dinner reservation for the gourmet restaurant. It was a quiet day and we were shown to a lovely table on the terrace where only a few other tables were occupied. The terrace faces north over the city of Porto and was cool and shady on a hot day. The view is spectacular. We both chose John Dory with seafood which was delicious and generous. We each had seconds from the cast iron pot and could have had thirds, if we hadn't opted to leave room for dessert and a glass of port. Our meal was preceded by a tasty amuse bouche, described as deconstructed sushi and completed with a selection of home made petit fours, although we didn't order coffee. No. It's not cheap, but we came away feeling we had had a special experience.

While the service was superb (Jennifer was most helpful) and the food was ok, there was nothing special here. Except the prices: dinner for 2 for 426euros should get something better than this. I would only recommend if, like us, you don't want to leave the hotel, but then - try the bar!

So we got of on a very wrong foot here. My wife went just ahead and was kind of very left alone standing there for some time. When I arrived table sitting in the shade left and still we had to request cleaning the table so we could sit there. It was really warm outside at lunchtime and sitting in the sun was no option. It seemed like too much of an effort making the table ready. Next checking with quite some attitude if we were residents of the hotel. Then serving our water the bottle fell on the ground and broke. Nothing big, can happen, but the glass pieces were never complete cleaned up and the waiter disappeared after that. There was no refill of the water and on asking they wanted to sell us another new bottle. We complained and things were ok but this is not correct. We had some really good food, an octopus salad and asparagus and avocado salad. Slow service, good food, nice setting and seating. Unfriendly and stiff service, especially at first. Again the potential is really big but they don't deliver due to service. We said no to the couvert which comes at €5,- but still had it on the bill. Telling them so they wanted to sell the "amuse bouche" as the couvert. At start they told us specifically that it was bread and olives etc…Shame…

This is "the other restaurant" of the Yeatman. As the kitchen staff is (probably) the same, you get the same quality menu here, albeit a bit less luxurious. The waiters are very friendly, and all fluent in English. The view is amazing!

The place and the view is amazing, however it will be my last visit with no regret.The manager in the place is so rude. He refused to allow my friends and I to set although the place was not closed and there were many tables available!!He kept us waiting for half an hour before offering us a table.This is racism, cause we are muslims wearing head cover. One of my friends was uncovered, when she asked for a table he accepted to offer her one but when he realized she was one of our group he took it back and asked her that they won't serve any table before 7! Although the place was serving others!!!I feel so offended but I also feel so sorry for such a beautiful place to be run by such races personalities.

I have a bad experience in the Yeatman Hotel in the terrace lounge today. First , they refused to arrange a table for us , and asks us to wait 45 min as the service not available. Nevertheless , people came after us and sit on the table. Second, the menue was limited, and my friend request pasta ; the waiter said it ok , but the terrace lounge manager refused to process the order. Third, the order was late more than 40 min , when they serve the order; some food were cold . It seems they left the food for a while to make us furious. Finally , our table waiter was polite and respectful, however , the terrace manger and other waiter very rude and treat us differently than other guests. We are the only Arab , Muslim guest . Despite the good view , the ill treatment was turn down.
