Silmar Restaurante and Snack-bar em Alvor

Perfect for some outdoor dining and watching the world go by. We ate here at least 3 times and can't fault the food or service. The menu is typical of Alvor so always something to try. Loved just relaxing with a couple of beers and good food.

Set in a little square in the old town, Silmar is one of the first places we have a drink in Alvor. Always busy and good service as well as great for people watching. A pint is 3 euros and a glass of wine 2.5 euros. Well worth a visit

Have not eaten here but for a drink it was great, friendly family run bar. You can sit on the sea front and get a glass of red wine for €3.50 but just have one for the view then come here to a nice little square and people watch and have a glass of red wine, just as good, for €1.25

A pleasant tea and coffee served by a friendly and attentive waiter. Alfresco was a plus in a “people watching” square

Excellent location brilliant Irish coffee and great for people watching !! Always something to see.

Having enjoyed a number of the restuarants in Alvor we gave Silimar a try. This was mainly due to a number of the locals restuarants being full. We ordered a Carbonara and a pizza which arrived fairly quickly, which was good but there were a few issues. The Carbonara was luke warm when it arrived, given the time it took to arrive it was probably straight out of the freezer! When it was returned it looked like it had had a blast in the microwave. The sauce was now stuck to the plate and looked like it was on its last legs. The pizza was tasteless, it had no redeeming features and I have tasted better from Asda. We decided not to complain, which was a mistake in hindsight but never the less I felt compelled to do this review. It was overpriced and very poor quality. It was not suprising that when other venues were packed Selmar was nearly empty.

Have been going to alvor for quite a few years now have had drinks and lunch in the square but never tried the restaurant this year we did. What a great meal we had the Portuguese steak was the best I have had the sauce was Devine the staff were so helpfull and attentive 4 adults and we all enjoyed our meals the garden area was lovely and relaxed will definitely be back

We ate here last year and enjoyed it , we went back last night and we were not disappointed , the staff were just as friendly, explaining with great detail the difference between two fish dishes we were looking at. We chose the Cataplana a fish stew it was very nice , this place is not expensive and well worth a visit
